Proficiency Exam

The medium of instruction at Zaman University is English. Therefore, all students who are interested in studying at Zaman University are required to take Zaman University Proficiency Exam to prove that they will be able to follow and understand lectures well in their majors.
Zaman University is committed to helping all our students succeed in the programs of study they pursue here. We know that English language proficiency is a critical component of that success for students whose first language is not English. By giving this exam to incoming students, we can identify specific areas in which an individual student may need additional English language study in order to be successful.
The Proficiency Exam consists of four basic sections and designed according to B2 difficulty level of Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) and taken twice a year:

Scrabble Knock-Out Round

Scrabble Championships commenced with a big bang! Students who competed had their friends supporting them. A few of them were seen to be giving back and shoulder massage to aid their friends relieve their stress and tension.

A handful others chatted excitedly as to who would emerge as the winners. The tension heightened towards the last few minutes of the competition as the final score would determine who the winners would be.  When the winners were announced, there were people who felt disappointed and there were those who jubilated.

International Conference on Science and Mathematics Education

The 5th International Conference on Science and Mathematics Education in Developing Countries was held at Zaman University from 1-3 March, 2012. More than 100 delegates from 26 different countries shared their latest research findings on pure mathematics and pedagogy of science and mathematics. Dr. Chan Roath, who is heading the Cambodian Mathematical Society, was the main organizer of the event. Zaman University, as a co-organizer, sponsored and facilitated the conference to be conducted in the most efficient and effective way.

Scrabble Championships

The Scrabble Championships is back this year with a difference! This competition is not only open to students but also to all staff. Prizes will be awarded to the top 3 winners. For all of you interested but unfamiliar with the game, you can come and attend the training to be held on 20 Feb 2012 at 3pm in Level 1 canteen. Do not delay but come and register for the competition with the knock-out round to be held on 5 Mar 2012! See you there!

Chinese Club

Chinese Club had just started with the aim of offering the students a chance to relax and at the same time, have fun picking up a new language skill and make new friends. Students got a chance to learn all the basic Chinese New year greetings and also share their experience of Chinese New Year in Cambodia.

 

 

Cambodia’s sinking higher education system.

That development Cambodia lagging behind much of the world is not claim but a fact. While there are real signs of progress toward many of the UN’s Millennium Development Goal, which set minimum standards for health and education to be met by 2015, others have been adjusted down. Regardless, the indicators themselves convey the reality that Cambodians are striving for a quality of life that was achieved decades ago by many developed countries, and is now taken for granted by most of the modern world.

Paperless pupils

The fusty aroma of old textbooks may take you back to your school years, but children starting school after 2015 in South Korean are more likely to recall of an overheating tablet computer.

That’s because the education ministry intends to transform schools into paperless digital operations by then, according to Korean news site The Chosun Ilbo.
