IR Students' Internship at CICP

Three of our students, Tynarath Houn, Serey Waddhanak Rath, and Vimeanratana Keo from the Department of Political Science and International Relations did their internship at Cambodian Institute of Cooperation and Peace (CICP). During their internship, they had an opportunity to join the Training Program for LMC Future Diplomats in China. Below are experience sharing by Waddhanak and Tynarath.

Waddhanak shared his overall impression of the internship as follows:

“My internship at the Cambodian Institute of Cooperation and Peace (CICP) was one of the most rewarding experiences. Not only was I exposed to the professional working environment, but I also made friendly and professional connections during my engagement both locally and abroad. I was very fortunate to have been nominated by CICP for this experience.

Under the direct supervision of senior researchers, I was able to learn from every aspect of International Relations ranging from conducting my own research to hosting international conferences. These were amazing opportunities indeed.

Last but not least, I would like to also thank Paragon International University for providing quality education which lays a firm foundation for us students to immerse ourselves in professional work experience."

Tynarath shared his experience on the program in China described below:

“Training Program for LMC Future Diplomats that we joined was a two-week program organized by China Foreign Affairs University. The program hosted students and officials from the 5 Mekong countries and China. The overall program included several lectures on many pressing issues by renounced experts and key officials from the Lancang-Mekong Cooperation (LMC), visits to prestigious institutes in Hainan province and Beijing, the trips to many Chinese landmarks such as the Great Wall, the Forbidden City, and the Yanoda Rainforest, and finally the three-day intense working group and the Model LMC Leaders’ Summit: 2030 Vision for LMC.

We were actively involved in all the lectures by asking many questions. During the three-day working group activities, we played important roles as co-chairs of the meeting, facilitated the negotiation process, wrote the reports, presented the report, and provided many inputs to the meetings.”
